CONNECTED COMMUNITIES

Without internet access individuals & communities are increasingly excluded from vital opportunities

Edge Spark® Anywhere Internet solution provides reliable, secure connectivity

Connect essential services where conventional infrastructure doesn't reach

Reliable, secure connectivity for remote and regional communities — supporting health, education, government services, emergency communications and local economic participation

Deployable without waiting for major fixed telecommunications infrastructure

Connecting essential services without waiting for major fixed infrastructure

By combining satellite (LEO), 4G/5G and solar power, schools, clinics and disaster response teams can stay connected improving communication capacity during cyclones, volcanic activity or network outages

From health care and education to business, government services and disaster alerts, so much of life now depends on reliable digital connection

Without it, people miss out on telehealth, job applications, online learning, banking and having a voice in decisions that affect them

Connectivity is no longer a luxury it’s a lifeline for inclusion, empowerment, safety and progress in a fast changing world

We can deliver not just technology, but also capacity building by training technicians and strengthening a regions digital future

Equitable Access

Connectivity infrastructure should expand opportunity across the whole community. Project design can include specific consideration of women and girls, people with disability, older people and others who may face additional barriers to digital access and essential services. Participation and outcomes can be measured as part of pilot evaluation

Local ownership from the outset

Projects are developed with government, community and in-country partners. Local organisations participate in site selection, service priorities, operating arrangements and evaluation, with technical training progressively transferring first-line capability locally

A regional development intervention

Connected Communities is more than a connectivity project. It is a practical regional development intervention designed to improve access to essential services, strengthen local capability and reduce the disadvantage created by geographic isolation

By establishing reliable digital infrastructure, communities can connect more effectively with health, education, government, employment and commercial services that increasingly depend on online access

Success can be measured through practical outcomes including service availability, network reliability, participating organisations, community access, local training completed and reductions in connectivity-related service disruption

The objective is not simply to provide internet access, but to create reliable digital infrastructure that enables measurable improvements in service delivery and community participation

Government service outcomes

Reliable connectivity should translate into practical service delivery

Network Equity + EdgeSpark can support:

Health — telehealth, visiting clinicians, digital health systems and remote specialist access

Education — online learning, vocational training, teacher support and access to digital resources

Government Services — reliable access to service portals, outreach programs, community administration and remote service delivery

Emergency Response — resilient communications for coordination during outages, severe weather and infrastructure disruption

Regional Participation — improved access to banking, employment, business, training and other essential digital services

The objective is not simply better internet access. It is to improve the ability of essential services to operate reliably in places where conventional connectivity is limited

What a pilot could deliver

90–120 day pilot

Baseline → Deploy → Operate → Measure → Evaluate → Scale decision

Connectivity baseline
Current coverage, reliability and service constraints established

Operational deployment
Priority government/community facilities connected

Service participation
Health, education, administration and other agreed services supported

Local capability
Local personnel trained in basic deployment, monitoring and escalation

Performance evidence
Reliability, outages, usage, service continuity and user experience measured

Government evaluation report
Costs, benefits, risks, lessons and scale options provided

Clear, accessible community outcomes

Connected Communities can be evaluated against practical service and development outcomes, including:

Improved Service Access - More reliable access to health, education, government and community services for people living in remote and underserved locations

Greater Digital Participation - Increased ability for residents to use online government services, banking, training, communications and digital resources

Stronger Local Service Delivery - Improved connectivity for clinics, schools, councils, community organisations and visiting service providers

Local Workforce Capability - Training and support for local technicians and organisations to undertake basic network operation, monitoring and first-line support

Reduced Service Disruption - Improved continuity of essential communications during network outages, seasonal isolation and emergency events

Infrastructure Utilisation - A single connectivity platform supporting multiple community services, improving the value of public infrastructure investment

Measurable Performance Outcomes can be tracked through service availability, network uptime, participating services, user access, local training - completed and reductions in connectivity-related service interruptions

Governance, security & local capacity

Connectivity infrastructure must be sustainable, secure and manageable after deployment

Network Equity works with service providers and local stakeholders to establish a practical operating model covering:

Governance — clear responsibilities for ownership, operation, maintenance and escalation

Security — enterprise-grade network management, appropriate separation of users and services, and secure connectivity pathways

Local Capability — straightforward equipment, local training and practical support to reduce dependence on specialist technicians

Operational Support — monitoring, maintenance, technical escalation and service continuity planned from the outset

Integration — designed to complement existing telecommunications and government infrastructure rather than requiring wholesale replacement

The aim is a solution that can be operated confidently in the field and scaled as service requirements grow

Measuring what works

Performance can be evaluated against agreed measures including:

Connectivity — availability, reliability and reduction in service interruptions

Service Delivery — improved ability to access health, education and government platforms

Resilience — continuity of essential communications when individual networks are unavailable

User Experience — feedback from community members, frontline workers and service providers

Local Capability — effectiveness of training, support and local operating arrangements

Cost and Sustainability — installation, operating costs, support requirements and potential avoided infrastructure expenditure

Scalability — what is required to extend the model to additional communities, facilities or regions

Start practical. Measure the results. Scale what works.
